Have you been wondering when the next version of the Quick Guide is going to come out for Marion County? Well we have some great news. We have something that’s even better.
2-1-1’s database has over 220 agencies just in Marion County alone. Our database also has resources that Marion residents qualify for, but may be regional, state or national resources. Information and Referral Specialists, who support 2-1-1 clients, receive more than 80 hours of training, can serve clients who speak any language, and are available 24 hours a day with a Senior Crisis Specialist always available to support the staff. At 2-1-1, responsiveness is just as important as the help itself. The average wait time for someone to speak with someone when you call 2-1-1 is less than one minute.
Do you work for an agency and you want to be able to give clients information on paper? We would be happy to provide you with as many 2-1-1 information cards as you need. Simply contact 2-1-1 and we will get them to you promptly.
We find that often when someone calls 2-1-1 looking for a resource, in the process of hearing their story we discover that they have additional needs where we can offer support. Sometimes that additional need ends up being the root of their struggle.
Recently someone called 2-1-1 in search of assistance with paying her rent. It turned out that she didn’t qualify for any of the rent payment assistance programs in Marion County. After further conversation, she shared that the reason she was struggling with paying her rent was because she was paying for very expensive prescription medications that she needed every month. 2-1-1 was able to send her a discount prescription card to help save over $250.00 on her prescriptions. We were also able to help her brainstorm a handful of ideas for ways that she could adjust her budget in order to be able to pay her rent.
2-1-1 may not always have an agency listed that can meet someone’s needs, but we always have the compassion to help someone explore other options.
You can reach 2-1-1 in a variety of ways 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

2-1-1 is also FLAIRS certified. One of the top priorities of 2-1-1 is to have accurate and up to date information. This means that clients spend less time calling disconnected phone numbers, asking agencies if they provide services which they no longer provide, and becoming increasingly frustrated in an already stressful endeavor. When 2-1-1 gives out accurate information, it saves agencies and clients time and stress. The United Way of Marion County decided that keeping the Quick Guide accurate was not the best option. In exchange for the Quick Guide, we would love to provide our 2-1-1 information cards to share in the community.
To request our 2-1-1 information cards please contact the United Way of Marion County at 352-732-9696 and let the staff person know how many you need.
