Parents: Want someone to make you dinner, take care of your kids, and ease your stress for FREE? You’re in luck! There are a few agencies in Marion County who offer parenting classes to help take the stress out of parenting. The Early Learning Coalition’s Success By 6 “Active Parenting” program is a class for parents with children birth to six years old. “Topics include early literacy, behavior management, child health and safety, childhood development, sign language, car safety for your family, utilizing community resources, reducing parenting stress, and financial stability and budgeting.” All this is FREE! What’s new at 2-1-1? Beep Beep!

For community members living up in North Marion, Grandma’s Country Pharmacy provides FREE delivery for your prescriptions if you live in Salt Springs, Citra, Orange Springs, Anthony, Fort Mc Coy or Reddick. (Bonus tip: They also provide a free bottle of chewable vitamins every 30 days for each of your children.)

Serving Lake, Marion and Sumter, Wellness on Wheels provides in home health care. If you’re wondering if you can afford the luxury of in home doctor visits, they offer a sliding scale for those who are eligible and they accept most insurances including Medicare.

What’s new at 2-1-1?

WhatsNewIn April at 2-1-1 we added the following programs and agencies to our database for agencies which serve Marion County. Below each agency/program you’ll see “Ask 2-1-1”, these are the key terms you can use to look up the resources on your own via our online database, or when you call 2-1-1 you can mention those terms to the Information and Referral Specialist to get a list of resources for that service in your area.

When work hours are cut by an employer to the point that an employee loses their health insurance, they can be left with very high medical expenses and not enough income to pay the costs. Until you are able to get insurance again, here are 5 ways to try to get those prescription costs down.

  1. Some manufacturers have their own Patient Assistance Program which will provide the medication for low cost or sometimes even for free. Look up your medications online and see if the manufacturers have a program and if you qualify. Here’s an example of a diabetes medicine manufacturer discount program.
  2. 2-1-1 or the United Way can mail you a Discount prescription card like Familywize which has NO QUALIFICATIONS or requirements. Anyone  can use them. The level of discount varies depending on the medication. (more…)
